Elliptic House, a house full of curves and clean lines
Designed by the Portuguese architect Mario Martins, this attractive contemporary villa is located in Luz, in the Algarve region, in southern Portugal.
400 m² of harmonious design, covered in immaculate white and with a very particular structure, since it adopts an elliptical shape and consists of overlapping ovals. An originality that doesn’t go unnoticed in this natural setting of pure beauty. The softness of the rounds brings a lightness to the overall structure, giving the impression that the villa is floating above the green ground. The sinuosities of this house mimic the movement of the water and the wind, so particular to this Portuguese region. A perfect harmony between nature and architecture.
Organic and sculptural, the Elliptic House also offers its inhabitants a complete immersion in the heart of the landscapes of the Portuguese coast. Thanks to endless windows, the outside becomes an extension of the interior, inviting itself into each room of the house.
The minimalist aesthetic of the exterior is thus found inside as well. We discover that white is omnipresent, from walls to floors, ceilings and windows. It’s a way of unifying the whole house.
Only the furniture is embellished with a touch of gray, taupe and beige. Large portholes, suspensions or the curved staircase also perpetuate the elliptical experience.
Finally, the icing on the cake, an interior patio, under a skylight in the shape of a bubble, opens onto a pool and a jacuzzi. All with a breathtaking view of the ocean, in which any notion of boundaries and spaces is diluted.
A house that definitely appears to be one with its environment.
