Ferrari Daytona SP3: the new "Icona"
Ferrari Daytona SP3: the new "Icona" inspired by the legendary victories of the sports prototypes of Maranello.
On February 6, 1967, Ferrari achieved one of the most spectacular feats in its entire history by capturing the first three places at the 24 Hours of Daytona, during the first round of the international sports car championship. The first three cars to pass the checkered flag in this legendary neck and neck finish on Ford land were a 330 P3/4, followed by a 330 P4 and a 412 P.
They represented the pinnacle of the development of the Ferrari 330 P3, a model whose chief engineer Mauro Forghieri had considerably improved each of the three fundamental elements of racing cars: the engine, the chassis and the aerodynamics. The name of the new Icona evokes this legendary hat-trick and pays homage to the Ferrari sports prototypes which helped the brand to acquire its unique status in motorsport. The Ferrari Daytona SP3 is a limited edition that joins the "Icona" series which debuted in 2018 with the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2.
The Daytona SP3 features a naturally aspirated, rear-mounted V12. Undoubtedly the most iconic of all Maranello engines, this engine block delivers 840hp along with 697Nm of torque and maximum revs of 9,500rpm. Made entirely of composite materials, the chassis takes advantage of Formula 1 technologies that have not been seen on a road car since the LaFerrari.
The seat is an integral part of the chassis to reduce weight and provide the driver with a driving position similar to that of a competition car.
This Ferrari Daytona SP3 is the most aerodynamically efficient car ever built by Ferrari without resorting to active aerodynamic devices. As a result, the car does 0 to 100 km/h in 2.85 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in just 7.4 seconds.
