Mercedes SL 43: the new entry-level four-cylinder

The Mercedes SL expands its range with this new entry-level variant called the SL 43, which adopts a 2.0L four-cylinder engine already under the hood of the A 35 AMG and A 45 S AMG, but which also offers an electric turbo from Formula 1.

This four-cylinder which develops 381 horsepower at 6,750 rpm and a torque of 480 Nm available between 3,250 and 5,000 rpm, can be assisted by a mild hybrid system which offers 14 additional horsepower for short durations. Everything is sent to the rear wheels only via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The maximum speed is 275 km/h, and 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 4.9 s, against 3.6 s for the SL 63 AMG. On the design side, the front and rear bumpers are reworked compared to those of its big brother, and oval exhaust pipes take the place of the rectangular models of the SL63.

The passenger compartment is strictly identical, with its central tilting 12.3-inch touch screen. The customization options are numerous.

Mercedes offers 19-inch wheels as standard, and 20 and 21-inch wheels as options.

Pricing and availability for this Mercedes-AMG SL43 will be announced closer to production.
