In the world of watchmaking, the fusion of gold and lacquer is an exercise rarely experienced, and rarely mastered. 

 

The L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Dragon timepiece nevertheless delivers a unique interpretation for the Chinese New Year, through a work of craftsmanship synonymous with luck and prosperity. Inspired by these traditions, this exceptional watch is equipped with the L.U.C 96.17-L caliber with micro-rotor allowing it to maintain a thinness of some 6.80 mm. 

 

A meeting of technical know-how and the artistic fiber cultivated by Chopard Manufacture, its dial itself is a work of art, decorated with Urushi lacquer, gold powder and mother-of-pearl inlays. 

 

 

For the twelfth consecutive year in the L.U.C XP Urushi series, it was made by hand in Japan by a world-renowned craftsman specializing in the Maki-e technique. The first creature to appear in Chinese myths and legends, the dragon represents imperial authority, wealth and fertility. 

 

According to tradition, China's first emperor, the legendary Huangdi – who reigned between 2700 and 2600 BC – inserted various creatures into his coat of arms when he conquered neighbouring tribes. This is how he shaped the image of the Chinese dragon as we know it today...
