Montblanc: Tribute to the bicentenary of the “time marker”

Homage now to the bicentenary of the “time marker”!

Montblanc celebrates the bicentenary of the inking chronograph invented by French watchmaker Nicolas Rieussec in 1821.

Nicolas Rieussec in 1821. A chronograph and its watchmaker which have marked the history of fine watchmaking. It was in 1821 that the sixth watchmaker to the King of France tested a chronometer on a racetrack intended to measure the time taken by the winning horse and its opponents to cover the distances. The device operated with a fixed ink feather leaving a black mark on two rotating counters as soon as a horse crossed the finish line.

Inspired by the original model, the new Montblanc Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph LE 200 watch features this chronograph with two horizontally aligned rotating discs, a fixed double index and a gold dial.

"While the principle of the rotating dials inspired the design and the movement, it also gives it a recognizable allure."
