The BMW HP4 Race: A custom racing motorcycle
High tech and handmade innovation for advanced circuit performances, here is the new BMW HP4 Race!
The new HP4 Race presented by BMW Motorrad is a thoroughbred racing bike that will be built in limited edition with just 750 copies.
As for the mechanics, electronics, and suspension, the new HP4 Race is no different from the factory bikes currently seen in the Superbike; as for the cycle part with its carbon frame, it is a notch above. With a dry weight of 146 kilograms and 171 kilograms when in running order, the new HP4 Race is better than the current factory bikes in the Superbike World Championship and barely exceeds the weight of official bikes used in the MotoGP.
With its HP4 Race, BMW Motorrad launches on a market of industrial manufacturing, a small series with a carbon frame only weighing 7.8 kilograms, thus making this technology accessible to the biggest number. The front and rear rims are made with the same high tech material that is 30% lighter than forged light alloy rims.
The FGR 300 inverted fork and the TTX 36 GP spring/shock system are both supplied by the Swedish equipment manufacturer Öhlins and are used in the strict identical form to the Superbike World Championship and MotoGP.
The new HP4 Race benefits from a purebred racing engine resembling specifications 6.2 and 7.2, as at the Endurance World Championship and Superbike. The peak power is 158 kW, 215 hp at 13,900 rpm. The maximum torque of 120 Nm is reached at 10,000 rpm. Maximum speed is increased to 14,500 rpm against 14,200 rpm on the S 1000 RR engine. The motorcycle is designed for maximum performance and uses a close ratio six-speed gearbox with optimised gear ratios and various secondary transmissions.
The 2D dashboard with extractible data memory provides a wealth of information. The carbon shroud, air box and seat covers of the new HP4 RACE features the BMW HP Motorsport colours. A hand brushed aluminum reservoir coated with a transparent varnish underlines the high-end racing look.
